What A Proclamation! – Part 1
Elijah I exalt You, my God the King, and praise Your name forever and ever.2 I will praise You every day; I will honor Your name forever and ever. -Psalm 145:1-2
ONE OF MY favorite stories recorded in the Scriptures is the story of Elijah
and the false prophets of Baal. It’s found in 1 Kings 18. In Elijah’s time, culture defined what God was, and one lone soldier in God’s army stood tall with his decree that God was the One True God. We need that kind of boldness in the world. We need that kind of Crazy Faith.
Israel had not received any rain for more than three years. The people found themselves in this predicament because they had committed idolatry … again. This seemed to be a constant theme for the people of Israel: follow God, praise God, turn to idols, face punishment, repent, follow God, praise God… And God judged them according to their sin. I have to admit: this looks familiar in my own life at times.
God speaks to Elijah and tells him to confront King Ahab. As a result, He will send the rain that is desperately needed.
Elijah confronts King Ahab and challenges him to a duel. Elijah tells the king to gather all of Israel at Mt. Carmel, along with all the false prophets of Baal, 450 of them. And if that’s not enough, Elijah asked for the 400 prophets of the false goddess Asherah to join them. Once they were assembled together, Elijah charged the people with a question: “How long will you waver between two opinions? If the Lord is God, follow Him; but if Baal is God, follow him.”
Stepping out in Crazy Faith will often have you standing against the opposition.
Has there ever been a time in your life when you faced opposition?
How did God show up?
